I received reports of secondary 2 students surfing undesirable websites during iMovie course lessons. If Mr Wang allows, I will disable BOTH Safari and Internet Explorer browsers tomorrow. I DO NOT tolerate any abuse of the iMacs.

This post should have been out 2 days earlier, but I think someone played a fool by reporting us as a 'spam blog'. I dunno who is boring enough to do that but stop all the nonsense for god sake and get a life
The Singapore Youth and Media Conference 2006 will be held on 27 May, Saturday. You have to choose one of the following workshops to attend.
The available workshops are...
Gaming – Not Just A Hobby?
Workshop presenters will showcase local gamers and gaming. There will be discussions about games, gaming-related businesses and how to make gaming a career. Get a chance to talk to professional gamers, familiarise yourself with gaming etiquette and witness a behind-the-scenes presentation from local game developers.
Creative Writing & Poetry
Transform your imagination into brilliant stories. Know what makes an exciting character. Get a head start in writing poetry. This workshop promises hands-on activities and lots of fun!
Comic Fun!
This workshop will expose you to the art of creative comics – drawing techniques, communicating stories and engaging your readers. You will tap on each other's creative ideas to produce your own work.
Vibrant Screenwriting
Unleash your creative talents! The workshop presenters will share the dynamics of a lively and appealing story pitch, and introduce you to the art of screenwriting.
Drama And Self-Expression
Learn the basics of self-expression and drama, see if you have the knack to be like your favourite artistes, and to pursue that flighty temptress, stardom! This workshop promises loads of fun!
Talk On Air – A Radio Experience
Ever wondered what life is like for your favourite radio deejay? Learn how to operate the broadcast console, engage your audience, and be an awesome radio personality!
Media Violence – How It Affects An Unaware You
This workshop aims to highlight the impact of media violence on youths. Violence is rampant in the media these days, and as youths get desensitised and crave for more and more violence, what you see on television and in films can possibly have a great impact on your character, actions and how you view your world.
Media Stereotypes
Why are Malays commonly portrayed as Mee Rebus sellers on television? Why do Hollywood films always feature Chinese men and women as kung fu heroes? Why do beautiful women in the movies always have to be thin, tall and dressed sexily? Get answers to these questions at the workshop.
Please send your preferred workshop to imedia_chs@mac.com by 24 March (This coming friday) or you will be sorted randomly

My email is cepheusy. If anyone by the name of ceqheusy adds you on MSN, BLOCK HIM!
I left another Mark of iMedia at iShop today (went to get my birthday present).
The first Mark of iMedia appeared during Cross Country, when my iMedia pals and I went to CineLeisure for a movie. We went to iShop and browse around while waiting for the movie to start. Messed around with Motion on their PowerMac. The shop was pretty deserted so the sales people kinda looked at me I think. Left a burning 'iMedia' animation when we left.
Today, I left a sparkling 'iMedia' on their PowerMac again, with longer animation. A salesman came and chatted with my father while commenting on my animation *blushes* Haha. I didn't know I can drag keyframes around!!! My god... Gonna find that setting when I go to school tomorrow. Yea back to the salesman. He is good with the recent updates of Apple. My dad asked him when is the iBook changing to Intel processors and he said most people are anticipating Intel iBooks to appear in April, the month when Apple turns 30. He is also familiar with Universal Binary applications and that Pro Apps are best used with desktop Macs. He has done his homework well I see...
2 Marks of iMedia... and counting =DD

Members who have not been allocated a grouping in CH Music Awards 2006, please select one of the following committees
Video Crew
They will be in charge of producing 2 videos.
The first one is the CHMA Promotional Video to introduce Catholic High Music Awards to the entire school. This video will be shown during one of the wednesday assembly and is likely to contain elements of Bluescreen (Chroma-keying) filming and editing.
The second video is to credit the entire iMedia crew for their efforts in organising CHMA. It will showcase the preparation works done by all three committees and the different rehearsals. It will also include the finalists for Music Awards.
They will also be taking charge of producing the CHMA06 DVD after the concert, and hopefully, it'll be faster than that of last year (SORRY!!!)
Publicity/Promotional Comm
They will be in charge of producing the publicity posters, auditions, ticketing etc. There will be two rounds of posters. 1st group of posters is to urge our students to participate in CH Music Awards. The 2nd group is to promote CH Music Awards 2006 concert itself, persuading people to buy tickets. Nope, the price of the tickets not finalise yet.
Registration forms and programme booklets are also designed by the promo team. This comm will be messing around with Photoshop a lot. You have to be creative.
Audio Crew
They will be in charge of the entire audio system on CHMA nite itself, ensuring no screw-ups in the audio. They will have to test the system throughly before the concert and learn to different sound equipments (equalizers, effects box etc). The entire concert audio will be recorded by the audio crew. So screw them if theres a screw up on the night itself =P
They will also provide help in the audio syncing of CHMA06 DVD
Thats about all I guess. Those who have not been sorted into the different groupings yet, please email your name, class and your preference to imedia_chs@mac.com

Woot!~ The anuualy IT Show 2006 is here at Suntec!!!
Venue: Suntec City Exhibition Centre
Halls:
Level 3
Level 4 (Halls 401 - 404)
Level 6 (Halls 601 - 603)
Date: 9th - 12th March 2006
Time: 12nn-9pm daily
Admission: Free!
I'm heading down to Suntec later with my friends to check out the situation over there.
If you are planning to buy some IT stuff, read on
Lets start with Apple products k? (since we use Macintosh ^_^)
For those who are interested in buying Apple Macintosh systems, listen up. If you need them urgently, just buy. Since the next Apple products announcement is on 1st April (Apple 30th Anniversary), I recommend that you wait till that time before you buy. This is because Apple products hardly have discounts, even during IT shows like this. Their prices are all standardized.
The recently released Mac Mini with Intel Core Solo/Duo has been said to be a little overpriced. If you are an ordinary user who uses your computer for basic internet surfing and checking of mails, doing office work most of the time, the Mac Mini will be nice enough. If you tend to edit videos on Final Cut and do lots of multimedia work, forget about this machine. It only has intergrated graphics card.
If you are a media type of person (watching videos, listening to music, image editing etc.), iMac Intel Core Duo will be more than enough. Not the iMac G5. The difference in iMac and iMac G5 is that the latter is older version with PowerPC processor. The iMac has Intel Core Duo processor. iMac is faster in terms of performance but it is only released a few months ago (January) and it one of the first Macintosh lines to convert to Intel processors so you might want to wait a little while for them to sort out all the bugs. The MacBook Pro will be a nice pal to have if you tend to move around a lot.
If you do heavy multimedia work, either get the PowerMacs or wait till they release Intel PowerMacs (they may change the name, eg. removing the word 'Power'). Even if there is Intel PowerMacs now, it is not worth it as Pro applications like Final Cut Studio and Adobe are not Universal Binary yet (Supports both PowerPC and Intel processors). Right now these applications if run on the Intel Macs, they will be running on an emulator called Rosetta. The Universal Binary version of Final Cut Studio are expected to be ready by 1st April and Adobe applications by the end of the year.
I have something to comment on. Some people have said that since Apple is switching to Intel processors, won't Macintosh be the same as Windows?
-_-"
No. The hardware is different, but what matters is the Operating System. The Operating System!!! You cannot dual-boot Windows on Mac OSX unless you use Virtual PC. You cannot boot Mac OSX on Windows (with full functionality). So get it?
Some joker even wrote an article about Apple turning themselves into Microsoft. What a joke. He should go kick himself.
Right, back to the IT Show. Be wary of cheater bugs. Compare prices between the different vendors. My Comex 2005 experience last year teaches me that you should collect as many brochures as you can so that you can compare the prices slowly at home. The most expensive computers will be those from Fujitsu (like duh....) and the cheapest will be from Dell.
One thing I noticed about Dell computers. Notice that their systems are all very very cheap? Look at the specifications carefully. Most of those cheap cheap models have Shared RAM, Intergrated Graphics card, CD-RW/DVD drives... It appears to me that they may be trying to lure unwary customers to buy these kind of computers...
If you dunno or are outdated, the standard computer nowadays (based on my requirements) must have at least
Intergrated graphics card means that its not a seperate component by itself, so if you need to upgrade your graphics card in the future, it is impossible to upgrade it. You can disable the onboard intergrated graphics card though, if you have a seperate one plugged into PCI or PCI-Express slot. Graphics card is very important when doing image and video editing, or if you watch a lot of videos on your computer.
USB 2.0 is a MUST. DVD is used widely now. The Ram is very important! It affects how many applications you can open and use at once. For example, 512MB DDR ram allows you to surf the net and play simple games like MapleStory while scanning for viruses in the background, with your Music Player blasting songs away. Add somemore (for example, 1GB DDR) will allow you to play videos, chat on MSN, surf the net, play some games and even do heavy image editing on Photoshop at the same time.
Shared video ram means that your graphics card will be sharing memory with your main ram. For example, in Mac Mini, its graphics card will use up 80mb of its ram out of 512mb, leaving you with 400+mb DDR ram.
I like Acer as they have rather good value and specs. My desktop and lappy are both Acer. I bought my lappy for 2.2k while Fujitsu sells its lappy with same specs for 3-4k. Remember to bargain and ask for freebies. Its the golden rule when visiting these IT exhibitions.
For durable desktop systems, go HP. High quality business systems go Fujitsu or IBM.
Will try to type more when I get back later... =)
And I wonder... What is this...? *wink*

There will be a general meeting (whenever I say general meeting, it means everyone) tomorrow, 3pm, iMac lab.
I hate to say this but be punctual!!!
Sec 1s will be learning basic AV stuff while the sec 2-4s will be staying in iMac lab for iDvd training.
Yu Hung, you'll be in charge of sec 1's training. Usual locations, hall, general office etc. Shao Ren, your in charge of Meet-the-parents session.
I am serious about this:
This is to all the councillors who are doing morning announcements...
SPEAK LOUDER!!!

Sec 1s will be required to come back during March Holidays for AV training on the various AV equipment and systems in the hall, auditorium, general office etc. Be prepared to come back during the weekdays of the holidays.
The CH Music Awards 05 DVD 2nd draft is burning now... I'm praying till kingdom come that theres no problem with it. The audio problem (revealed by MC below) kinda worries me a little until I visited Apple's Discussion Forums and found a way, which is basically re-rendering the audio tracks.
We may be having some activity during June Holidays for Apple fans in iMedia. Some of our members have expressed interest. Do look out for us if you are going to CineLeisure during June Holidays. Who knows, you may see some teenagers wearing Apple jackets somewhere around the third floor...
For iMedia members... If you have interest in videography, here are some interesting websites you can visit...
Video 101
2-pop Forum - A forum dedicated to video production and Final Cut
I'll share more websites if I come across good ones... For starters, you should visit Video 101. The second website is more for advanced users.
Keep your eyes peeled when school re-opens

Long time no see everyone! Better get your vocal cords and instruments ready! CHMA06 is coming
This year is going to be 'a little' different. Not wanting to leak too much, I'll just say that we are focusing on Quality this year instead of Quality+Quantity. So start training now!
One more thing. Lets get rid of that 'Majority of participants being sec 4s' tradition alright? C'mon! Sec 1-3s! Show us what you've got! You never know until you try!
On the other hand, Sec 4s, this is your last year in Cat High. Give it the best you've got =)
The site/blog for CH Music Awards 2006 is http://web.mac.com/imedia_chs
Think different ^_^

To all out there,
if you would like to contribute ideas to the set design to this year's Music Awards, please do and email it to me
All suggestions are welcomed!
Probably an idea that is simple and elegant at the same time.

Okay... Must say MC has done great job in the previous entry, seriously. Anyway, those who want a brief introduction of iMedia, and the answer on why on earth do we use Apple and not Microsoft, here it is.
http://www.apple.com.sg/casestudies/cathigh/index.html
Right, click on the link and check it out. Anyway, there are 3 pages, not 1.
"Says Wang: In terms of ease-of-use, Apple will always be up there, leading the industry. We prefer to be ahead with the leaders, and we believe this will be to our students' advantage."

Oh well, post away peeps~
